According to a 2013 Pew Research Center survey, about nine-in-ten Americans say they celebrate Christmas. For children, Santa – and the gifts he brings – plays a major role in the celebration. However, the buying, giving and receiving of gifts is something children must be taught – along with the numerous family and societal traditions associated with Christmas. K-State Research and Extension child development specialist Bradford Wiles offers some tips for helping children understand the spirit of the holiday season.
