Healthy eating habits are a front line defense against obesity – which in simplest terms – happens when we take in more calories than we burn. In the United States, almost 25% of children between the ages of 2 and 5 is overweight or obese, putting them at risk for developing diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and sleep apnea. Two Kansas State University nutrition specialists say children who develop healthy eating habits early in life are more likely to maintain those healthy eating habits over the course of their life.
