According to a study by Harris Poll for the National Endowment for Financial Education, two in five Americans who have combined finances admit to lying to their partner or hiding information about money matters. The study found that about 46 percent of men and 38 percent of women have committed an act of financial deception. Kansas State University associate professor of personal financial planning, Sonya Britt, says that money is a common area for arguments in relationships. However, she says discussing finances early in a relationship can help avoid problems later.
