The coronavirus pandemic has impacted everyone’s life over the past year. While there have been some benefits, such as working remotely and spending more time with family, there have also been many deficits. Since the pandemic began, K-State Research and Extension child development specialist Bradford Wiles says there have been a lot of disruptions, including things that are critical for children and their development. He says the emotional impact the pandemic has had on children is still being discovered and that its true effect probably won’t be known for years. However, Wiles expects we’ll need to have a more intentional focus on social and emotional development because that’s how we relate to one another.
Sound Living is a weekly public affairs program addressing issues related to families and consumers. It is hosted by Jeff Wichman. Each episode shares the expertise of K-State specialists in fields such as child nutrition, food safety, adult development and aging, youth development, family resource management, physical fitness and more.
